Fall fly fishing report for St. Augustine

tim Boothe

This is a great time of year to be fly fishing here in the Oldest City. Summer's heat will begin to give way to cooler air & water temps, there are fewer boaters on the water & the fish are hungry! The fall mullet run has started & the inlets have come alive as schools of mullet move through with jacks, ladyfish, tarpon & sharks all giving chase. In the backcountry flounder, trout & redfish can all be caught in the shallows crushing shrimp, crabs & bait fish. The water is quite dark, so flies that have flash & push a lot of water are preferred.

If you will be visiting St. Augustine & would like to set up a fly fishing trip, make sure to call ahead for dates so we can plan a day on the water. Tight lines! – Capt. Tim
